Why do companies boast about their knives being sharp, when eventually they all require resharpening?

Yes steel matters, but when it comes to knife care, sharpening is just part of the process. Why not have an effective, easy to use sharpener right there when you need it?

FAQs

  • Yes! When the steps are followed properly, the integrated two-stage wheel sharpener will put an excellent edge on your knife. The sharpener performs like a whetstone would, but without all the hours of practice or the inconvenient mess. The sharpener will remove just a small amount of material (at 16° per side) unlike most pull through sharpeners, making your knife last a knifetime*. If you have any confusion, feel free to check out our demonstration video.

*Our knifetime guarantee: your knife will be around forever… and so will the need to keep it sharp!

  • If you haven’t heard of us, it's because yes, we're new! That does not mean we are not qualified to produce a revolutionary kitchen knife. Urchin started off in a garage with an individual craftsman making knives by hand. Skilled in design, engineering, and passionate about cooking, he obsessed over the goal of making the ultimate kitchen tool. Five years later and a hobby was turned into a company with a fully developed product. We started Urchin because we have a love for simplicity, call ourselves “professional home cooks” and are simply tired of not having a knife that can be consistently outstandingly functional. And if the story isn’t heartwarming enough, we are working closely with manufacturers in Japan (who have been making knives for centuries) and have been countlessly testing our product with home cooks and professional chefs. If you have any more concerns, please check out our about page.

  • No! We're all about convenience, and having to take extra steps when it comes to maintenance is never fun. The stainless steel blade and titanium sharpener are both corrosion resistant, so you can leave it wet or dry, it doesn’t matter! Just make sure to return the sharpener in its place after use to avoid anything from getting in the handle. And like all knives, please avoid putting it in the dishwasher. One last thing, remember to sharpen your knife… oh wait! that'll be easy.
